Join the Hautlieu community on the journey to becoming a rights respecting school…

Launching the Silver award in 2019, the 30th anniversary of the UNCRC, Hautlieu school is challenging students’ knowledge of their rights, and topical knowledge relating to the UNCRC, in a Christmas quiz.

The school (lead by the Y13 IB students) has already collected 126 shoeboxes for the Rotary Club to hand out to children worldwide, who otherwise may not be privileged enough to receive gifts, demonstrating the students’ commitment to protecting other children’s right to rest, play, culture, and art.

Following on from the development of the school charter (see a summary below), from student feedback collected through the rights steering group, core sessions and mentor time, the school aims to develop its provision for the rights laid out in the charter, and encourage students to respect children’s rights and advocate for them. Students will be engaging with a new mentor programme explaining the rights in their charter, how we can respect them in our school community, and barriers some face to accessing these rights.

Our school is committed to increasing student participation, creating an environment where students respect the rights of others, and helping students to act for the rights of others. Our students have chosen the right to freedom of expression, thought, education, and protection from harm, all expressed in this video from Unicef, for the 30th anniversary of the UNCRC.
