Welcome to our Croatia Trip Blog.
After months of planning the IB CAS trip is finally underway. Each night a couple of students will be reflecting on our day and choosing a couple of photos to share to give a flavour of what we have been up to. Miss Holland will also be posting on X throughout the day so if (unlike me), you are social media savvy, you can follow us on @HautlieuCroatia
Day 1 – It was a very early start.
5.30 am and everyone (almost) arrived bright eyed, excited and dressed in our lovely lilac trip hoodies. It was going to be a long day of travelling but we were ready to go. There is not too much to tell about the journey, which as the teacher and trip leader is a very good thing. The flights were on time…ish, the connection between terminals was smooth and everyone made it through with passports, boarding cards and gear exactly where they should be…ish…
We landed in Croatia about 30 minutes late into the following weather conditions;
air temperature – warm ; sky – grey; precipitation – lots.
After a bit of a wait for the bags, we made it to our coach, got on the road and within 20 minutes, silence – that early start caught up on us. It was a long drive due to traffic conditions but as we got closer to the coast the scenery got greener and the first sight of the ocean and the islands came with sunshine and blue skies.
As we approached Krk we had a fantastic view of the bridge onto the island which, when it opened in 1980 was the biggest arch span in the world. It is a very impressive sight and we were pleased to see it as it meant we were just 20 minutes from our hotel in Punat.
We arrived in good spirits at around 6.45pm. After checking in and our first dinner at the hotel we spent an hour reflecting on our day. The general feeling was that the travelling had been surprisingly stress free, and they had enjoyed travelling with their friends. To finish the day, the students chose their teams for our Croatia Alternative Olympics which will include a range of games and challenges across the next week. More to follow on this, once they have chosen team names but Abby’s team are leading the way with 10 points after the biggest game of Corks ever.
Well, that has been our first day. The students have been a pleasure to travel with and we are all looking forward to a good night sleep and our first day of service tomorrow at Park Levora Cantrida.
