Introduction to your subject

In 2025 we will be taking on the second cohort of the GCSE Home Language course for Multilingual Learners (MLLs). The GCSE Home Language can be chosen as an optional GCSE subject, either alongside or instead of another language offered (Spanish, French or Mandarin). Students will receive teaching and guidance on how to develop their language proficiency in their Home Language and succeed in the exams, and periodic support with speaking and writing from a fluent speaker. However, students will take a much more independent approach to language learning. Through this course, students will have the opportunity to:

+ Develop their proficiency in the Home Language across all four skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing).
+ Expand vocabulary and literacy skills in the Home Language.
+ Receive support and advice on the course specification and assessment criteria, and coaching in exam skills and revision strategies.
+ Receive support with acquiring resources for independent study
+ Receive periodic support from a fluent speaker of the Home Language.
+ Investigate and share aspects of cultural identity and Home Language culture.
+ Take a proactive and independent approach to language learning.
+ If continuing to 6th Form at Hautlieu, act as a Language Ambassador for Year 10/11 students taking the Home Language GCSE the following year
